New Skin 03:43
Villianise all I see Even those who carry me Pouring scorn on rain that falls to the ground But I am not as I was found Two thirds below the surface we go Unnoticed, tangled as we are, we are Starved of peace and stained by living now my feet newly fit the earth and I’m in my new skin Two thirds below the surface we go Unnoticed, tangled as we are, we are

Ellie 04:34
Nothing goes unknown Even sounds of growing bones Rain on a tin roof, the noise of tears from those with past beyond their breathing years Press your body to the wall Voices rise and fall in your heart and in your ears the endless hum of fear One side of a lockless door Raised on scorn But you don’t know what for A harvest of regret for a life unknown Yet you are kind even when alone Press your body to the wall Voices rise and fall in your heart and in your ears the endless hum of fear If innocence is an absence of action we’re as pure as things un-grown
3.
Prolong 03:59
Lock the doors and draw the blinds to stop us now from seeping away Turn your gaze to the floor and say nothing but your silence speaks a thousand words, words, words Prolong love or no sense or reason when it’s time you feel it in your bones anyway, anyway Together alone in this endless space and dissolving fast A snapshot of your life Without them by your side There to catch you when you fall From a great height Prolong love for no sense or reason when it’s time you feel it in your bones anyway, anyway

Peace 03:51
I wake up beside my foe, my anchor long ago and there are ghosts in every room I was your spine, you were my skin These regrets they breathe (and sigh) There’s no safer place (than the scene of this crime) No worse than the rest But deserving peace none the less, peace none the less Pins drop like the rain Your mother sighs again For songs I no more sing You are perched so still With folded wings These regrets they breathe (and sigh) There’s no safer place (than the scene of this crime) No worse than the rest But deserving peace none the less, peace none the less

You wait to be shown wrong from right all around you rivers burn and brave men fight Though never the first to cast a stone How you bray behind the tyrant's throne, the tyrant's throne Hide and cower as you do, in your dreams you’re noble through and through turn your back and hang your pride in weakness evil lies Oh the time to pick a side is now (oh the time is now) You are nowhere to be found (nowhere to be found) Under the rocks you hide Harboured by those you despise Stand up, Oh stand up And I'll grant you my hate not pity Hide and cower as you do, in your dreams you’re noble through and through turn your back and hang your pride in weakness evil lies

The ice came, the ice came and we talked again, we talked again A child strayed in our neighbourhood and we talked again, we talked again Reaching out for human warmth Long to be loved for the small things once more Once more They built fences high and darkened the sky we forgot to be strangers and we talked again, we talked again Reaching out for human warmth Long to be loved for the small things once more

Hold thy way, my bonny bairn, Hold thy way up on my arm, Hold thy way, thou soon may learn to say Dada, so canny I wish thy daddy may be well, He’s long in coming from the keel, Though his black face be like the devil, I’d like a kiss from Johnny Thou really has thy daddy’s chin, Thou art like him, leg and wing, And I, with pleasure, can thee sing, Since thou belongs my Johnny When daddy’s drunk, he’ll take his knife And threaten sore to take my life, Who wouldn’t be a keelman’s wife, To have a man like Johnny Hold thy way, my bonny bairn, Hold thy way up on my arm, Hold thy way, thou soon may learn to say Dada, so canny

Scarecrow 03:08
On my wedding day, they only rang a single bell No witness came: You had me all to yourself A willow veil and gown of long leaf pine instead of lace An embroidered train endowed with twines of every muted shade On my wedding day, fronds of fern were flower girls Their dresses frayed, and the rice replaced with earth Love was my only journey until the dark swallowed me whole Now no one will return me to your door On my wedding day, limbs of trees strained to receive Forget-me-not bouquets, though many called them wreaths Of all the seasons Winter always tells the fewest lies And on snowy days I’d slowly fade in folds of bridal white Can a love start in a bloodless heart Can it shelter my life in its shade Will no one tell me why I was fated to die The night before my wedding day? On my wedding night, I lingered long but lay alone No hint of morning light, no dew upon the lawn There’s a wilderness within these walls This box of cold unanswered calls Desire lives on, survives the form, It will never feel the dawn Now my wedding gown is on a scarecrow in a field won’t you take it down and lay it by my grave concealed of all the seasons winter always tells the fewest lies and on snowy days I slowly fade beneath folds of bridal white Can a love start in a bloodless heart Can it shelter my life in its shade Will no one tell me why I was fated to die The night before my wedding day?

Crying Beast 04:51
Crying beast frets and moans in this house that once was home the floorboards sulk; the windows cry you and I turn a blind eye, a blind eye I'm shrinking as you grow; they have taken all we know my hand in yours like scattered seeds broken love fed by need Beware of the ones, the ones that come into your home unbidden, they will always be forgiven No matter what they do. Like a fading bell tenderness rings Shared past and the grief it brings And the grief that it brings I'm shrinking as you grow; they have taken all we know my hand in yours like scattered seeds broken love fed by need
10.
Silence will follow pride And last words catch the light And when no words remain And when no words remain We read lines in hands known so long For this is a song we dare not hum Sleeves fray with each heart beat And imprints fade like night streets And when no words remain And when no words remain We read lines in hands known so long For this is a song we dare not hum

about

Produced by Mick Ross, ‘New Skin’ is a whirlwind of song-writing prowess, as the band’s trademark melancholy strings and joyful rich harmonies intertwine to form a uniquely ethereal collection of haunting yet powerful songs.

Turbulent and often heart chilling lyrics collide with melodic soundscapes, endearing the listener with tales of warmth, woe and wonder. The album caresses you with stark and simple story telling, navigating through the wonder of life’s great highs and lows.

Recording of the album was supported by a Help Musicians UK Emerging Excellence Award (helpmusicians.org.uk) and City Music Foundation (citymusicfoundation.org).
